PHIL 2023 - Ancient Philosophy: Preparation for the Gospel

For the Fathers of the Church, philosophy was a true preparation for the Gospel. This course thus presents a survey of major figures and schools of Western philosophy; e.g., the Pre-Socratic’s; Plato and Aristotle; the Epicureans and Stoics, among others, as they precede and shape the world of the New Testament (6th century BC to 4th century AD). Special attention is given to introducing students to the perennial philosophy found in Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
