BIOL 6009 - Medical Pharmacology Credits: 3 This course will explore the concepts of drug interactions with human beings, as well as the effects of human metabolism on these same drugs. Topics to be covered include: 1) pharmacokinetics, 2)pharmacodynamics, 3) the relationship between drug dose (concentration) and its response, 4) drug effects at the neuronal synapse, 5) central nervous system drugs, 6) drugs affecting components of the cardiovascular system, 7) anti-inflammatory drugs, 8) drugs affecting volumes and concentrations, 9) anti-microbial drugs, 10) neoplastic chemotherapeutic drugs, 11) hormone therapies and hormone antagonists, and 12) a brief overview of the principles of toxicology.
Prerequisite(s): Program admission.
