ART 4033 - Public Art and Community Practice Credits: 3 This course will look at the history and approaches of artists who use the real world as their expressive and medium. By engaging with these artists and the community students develop an understanding of public art. By responding to their findings students become change agents. In this class we will develop and work on projects to help us understand the role of social narrative and the methods of art practice that extend into communities. Topics include (but are not limited to) art and commodity, the business of art, the politics of audience, art as object or action, art as labor, and art as social justice.
