HIST 3623 - Jeffersonian and Jacksonian America Credits: 3 Advanced study of the early years of America as an independent country. The course will begin at the end of Washington’s first term and study the development of a two-party system, the westward expansion of America, the effect of the frontier on American life, foreign policy (particularly Europe but ultimately wars with both Britain and Mexico), the beginnings of the industrial revolution, America’s push towards reform in the early 19th century, Native American policy and relations, and slavery and the country’s drift towards civil war. The class covers the years 1796 to 1848.
